Wow -- know a lot more about the younger days of our Pres now..

I came across this book on the shelf in the 3rd grade classroom of my niece, as i was sitting in on her class one day (by her request), and i read through a good fraction of it as i waited -- and was really touched and moved by the detail. I'll admit i've been a huge fan of the Pres's personal story and arc right from the beginning, but all the details of his family life -- his Mother (the most), his grandparents, his sister, his search for roots through his father -- just blew me away. I have a much better picture of what makes this very amazing man and incredibly inspiring speaker, exactly who he is today, starting right from his birth (I have to say i only got as far as his Columbia days in the book, about 1/3 through, before the class ended and i had to leave it behind! But i'm certain i would've found the rest also quite interesting, though slightly less new to me, as i feel i know his more recent history in somewhat better detail already).

Anyway, for a 'full-grown' adult like me, i rather relished this book, so i can only think it must be quite interesting for a kid also to read through, and compare their life to our current very amazing President's arc (in contradistinction to the much *less* distinguished dissolute youth and adulthood of various previous occupants of the office, and in order to not sully the positivity any further, i won't go into specifics about who and when, and readers can fill in their least favorite President here. ;-> ).

This book was purchased to add to my book shelf for my third grade students. I've had a lot of interest from my students about Barack Obama. This book is very well written and easily understood by third graders although the readability level is probably at the fifth grade level. I'd consider this a book that would be suitable for my above average readers.

An Inspirational Read from start to finish

Great Read. Admittedly it wasn't the book I expected it to be from the cover this array of authors some I had heard of some I have read their books and others I had never heard of. All had a chapter to give some advise and tell their story. the book flowed smoothly from one story to the next, each inspirational in one way or another.One Story that hit a little close to home was Liana Leordeanu although when I was hit in the drivers door I got to walk away the next day. Injuries severe enough for temporarily paralyses and I have spent the last eight years in pain management trying to stretch myself further and to be better than before. It is stories like this that give me the drive to do better.
This book is a must read for anyone interested in doing better and being better.

A Provocative and Well-Constructed Collection

Wolfe has put together an eclectic anthology on what the subtitle calls (after Derrida) "the question of the animal." Wolfe's excellent introduction and his long examination of Wittgenstein's famous dictum--"If a lion could talk, we could not understand him"--range much further than simply an analysis of language games and are worth the price of the book in themselves. I look forward to reading Animal Rites immensely. I thought Steve Baker's "Sloughing the Human" about animals and art deserved to be longer and Alphonso Lingis's "Animal Body, Inhuman Face," which I'd read in Animal Others, once more provded fascinating, weird, and very suggestive. I can't say I really "got" Judith Roof's essay on Freud's psychoanalysis of the single-celled organism, and my predisposition not to take psychoanalysis seriously as a science probably colored my response to Derrida's deconstruction of Lacan's Cartesianism in "And Say the Animal Responded?" (Wolfe explains Derrida much better than I think Derrida does!) Ursula Heise's chapter on virtual reality, dinosaurs, and Philip K. Dick's "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" was thought-provoking and Charlie LeDuff's investigation inside a racially divided slaughterhouse in North Carolina once more reminded me of how politicized and gendered the killing and consumption of animals is. Indeed, this piece (which comes at the end of the book) highlights that when it comes to animals, it (philosophy, theory, food) can never be only about theory. A well-constructed and provocative volume.

Fabulous Artwork from top cartoonists at Zenescope Comics. Mature Subject Matter.

This is the easiest alternative to the never ending search for back issues of Zenescope's Wonderland. As most Comic Book or Graphic Novel collectors know, the older a graphic novella, the more it increases in value and the more difficult they become to find. Here we have all issues of Zenescope Wonderland laid out in one big soft bound tome with quality printing and binding. I did read other comments where the customers stated that the binding of their books came apart or loosened. There is a way to prevent this from happening. A soft bound book of this size ought to be opened a certain way, that is; loosened up, before one actually starts reading it. I learned this from a very talented middle school English teacher and I'd like to share with you all now: Starting from approximately the middle of the book, open it about 4-6 inches. Then, from that middle point, grab about an inch thick of pages and open the book approximately the same width as you did in the middle, alternating from side to side, until you get to the front and back covers. Repeat this process about two more times, opening the book a little bit wider each time until the binding feels a bit looser. The objective is to gently break the book in so that it can be read and handled without it falling apart. I highly recommend this method on all soft bound books of this thickness, as well as; hard bound books in general. As for this collection of Wonderland; A+ artwork and story line; intended for mature readers and not because it is sexually explicit, as suggested from the cover art work. I recommend mature readers mainly because of the gruesome storyline and pictures. It's Wonderland alright, but; not the way Lewis Carroll intended it. Plot is Twisted, Entertaining and worth every penny. I Love Zenescope Comics! Enjoy!

Awesome book and mine's holding up well

My first foray into Zenescope's comics and I love it. I'm still reading it, up to Tales from Wonderland 1 I think, and the artwork is great and there's a lot of moments where I've been shocked at the plot developments, however I feel the "trilogy" this book starts off with is very slow going with not much pay off. It's clearly a dense set up for a monumental amount of stories, so this heavy tome feels like the tip of the iceberg. But a great introduction to Zenescope's mature, horror-centred takes on folk and fairy tales and classic stories like Alice in Wonderland.

Some have complained about the spine falling apart and stuff like that, I've been very careful in my reading of the book to constantly hold the spine and take care of it, just be careful as you should with any book. Glad I took a chance on ordering it despite these concerns.

Replace bad covering

The binding is clearly inferior. Basically, I was 1/4 of the way through, the cover came off in my hands--and the cover was partially glued to the last page-very odd decision. This is unfortunate because this is a great story-period. Instead, I stripped off the old brittle glue, used PVA glue, glued the spine to cloth tape, attached some old comic boards to act as new first and last pages to the tape, glued chipboard to the comic boards--effectively making a hardback book.
I honestly wished that the producers of the book had put the quality into the binding that was put into the story line. Clearly, I gave four stars because in spite of the binding, the story deserves no less.
I purchased the two grimms fairy tales omnibus. I hope they are not as bad except now, I have some idea as to modify them.

The introduction explains what symbols are and their importance throughout history. It outlines the coverage in the book and discusses the "catalog pages" that illustrate groups of 12 symbols from various traditions. The entries that follow generally portray on a two-page spread each, an item and its history�??handprints on cave walls in Argentina, the breastplate of Aaron, �Vitruvian Man. Several entries address a type of item, such as tefillin (phylacteries worn by Jews), playing cards, or Fibonacci series. In many cases the book goes into extra detail. What a lovely book! As an artist, I am constantly looking to increase my awareness of line, gesture and symbol to better understand what they reference, and or how they might be perceived by my audience. This book has been on my studio desk for weeks now, and I often find myself drawn into its pages in between tasks. Each entry goes into great detail, but not so much that I am overwhelmed at any time -- I think the pages chocked full of images helps considerably. I've referenced the spread on birds already a dozen times, and it has prompted further interest and research into some of the specific tributes of the various species included.

I found this book to be most interesting with all the information and bright pictures. It makes a wonderful read or gift for the special someone in your life. Devil-Chasing Medal, also known as the Saint Benedict medal, this decoration is worn by Catholics as a protective amulet. It is believed to have immense power against evil. About the Author

Matthew P. Stephens is a professor and a University Faculty Scholar in the College of Technology at Purdue University, where he teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in facilities planning, statistical quality control, and productivity- and reliability-based maintenance management. Stephens holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from Southern Illinois University and the University of Arkansas, with specialization in operations management and statistics. He spent nine years with several manufacturing and business enterprises, and he has been involved as a consultant with a number of major manufacturing companies. Stephens has numerous publications to his credit including several internationally adopted textbooks.

Fred E. Meyers, P.E., is an emeritus professor in the College of Engineering and Technology at Southern Illinois University. He is an author and consultant, principal of Fred E. Meyers & Associates. Meyers has worked in heavy equipment manufacturing, aerospace, appliance manufacturing, and several other areas. His vast experience and varied assignments have made significant contributions to this textbook. His previous books include Plant Layout and Material Handling (1993) and Motion and Time Study for Lean Manufacturing (with James R. Stewart) (2001).

Fortunately, I also learned a little about W

This book was part of my studies at ECU, where I received a BS in manufacturing, in 2013. It portrays the current style of management in the western world, which has led us into industrial decline for decades. Fortunately, I also learned a little about W. Edwards Deming at the university. He was not given the credit he deserves, nor did we really study his teachings. I have done this myself. This book is a farce and a travesty, for example saying if a department saves $100,000 per year per employee, it doesn't have to worry about layoffs or elimination. Really, what if you make carburetors and somebody invents fuel injection? This book and its style of thinking is destroying us, WAKE UP AMERICA! DEMING !!!
Another example from the text: Plants with incentive systems operate at 120% ! That is like shooting 10 free throws in a basketball game and making 12 ! IT CANNOT BE DONE !!! STUDY DEMING or God help us!!!

Approximately 43 percent of women in the United States will have a voluntary abortion during their lifetime, yet medical education about abortion is limited. A Clinician's Guide to Medical and Surgical Abortion is the first comprehensive textbook about abortion care to be published in the United States in the past 15 years. The need for such a textbook has become especially important because innovations in medical abortion have evolved rapidly.

The contributors to this book are a diverse group of experts from the fields of public health, epidemiology, sociology, law and social work, and clinical medicine. The authors present the complex historical, social, and political context of abortion in the United States and other countries, and some of them provide their personal perspectives on issues related to abortion before and after the legalization of abortion in the United States.

Most of this book deals with the clinical aspects of abortion care. Chapters on surgical abortion include information on preoperative counseling, anesthesia, surgical techniques, and the management of complications.
