A breath of fresh air for some old friends
By J.Prather
Nursery Rhyme Comics is a surprisingly comprehensive collection of most of the great rhymes I loved as a child, plus a couple I had never heard of. Each rhyme is given fresh treatment by one of fifty well known artists. They range from from the incredible cuteness of the donkey lifting his horn "To wake the world this sleepy morn" so expertly portrayed by Patrick McDonnell, to Lucy Knisley's decidedly different visual take on There Was and Old Woman Who Lived in A Shoe. The old woman in this version is Ruth of Ruth's Rock n Roll Babysitting Service. Ruth is an old woman wearing a skull t-shirt and sporting tattoos on both arms. Her rock band is the whips, and the kids sleep off an afternoon of rock and roll till their parents come and pick them up.

Quite a few of the comics are faithful interpretations of each rhyme, such as The Itsy Bitsy Spider. There's a spider, there's a spout and he gets all washed out, the only addition is that he's carrying luggage. Cute stuff! Jack Be Nimble is mad because he jumped over a candlestick - the last frame shows a decidedly red bottom! Solomon Grundy is a bit creepy, and Croak said the Toad is just beautifully illustrated by Laura Park. I especially liked One Two Buckle My Shoe by Dave Roman. It's count the clones time! I have far too many favorites to describe them all, but whether they are straightforward interpretations, or if the artist has placed a new spin on the old rhyme, these are all wonderful ways to introduce a child who may be somewhat older to some classic rhymes they might have missed out on during their toddler days.

This is a great book for any child's personal collection and will perhaps be best suited for households with a wide range of ages. Some of these will charm the smallest child and others will need an older eye to fully appreciate the sly humor. Adults will get a kick out of this one as well, making it a book sure to be enjoyed by the entire family. Out of all fifty rhymes, I could only count one or two that missed the mark, leaving this to be an excellent volume just teeming with creative, fun artistry. It's nice to see the classics get a breath of fresh air and a new look. Recommended.

I don't have young children anymore, but I do teach Gifted and Talented students from 1st through 5th grade. I ordered this book, because we study innovations in 5th grade, so I though this book would fit right in. The combination of popular Nursery Rhymes with comic book style illustrations was a hit with my students. They now understand what the term "innovation" means, as well as what a "parody" is. My students were reciting the classic nursery rhymes as I read the book out-loud and laughing at the whimsical illustrations. Some of their favorites were "Three Little Kittens," "Rock-a-bye Baby," "Pop Goes the Weasel," and "Humpty Dumpty," but they laughed especially hard when we read "Jack be Nimble." My next activity will be to have the students create their own innovations on a popular fairy tale of their choice. I can't wait to see what my highly creative students come up with.

For the Spongebob generation
By E. R. Bird
Nursery rhymes. What's up with that? (I feel like a stand up comedian when I put it that way). They're ubiquitous but nonsensical. Culturally relevant but often of unknown origins. Children's literary scholar Leonard Marcus ponders the amazing shelf life of nursery rhymes himself and comes up with some answers. Why is it that they last as long as they do in the public consciousness? Marcus speculates that "the old-chestnut rhymes that beguile in part by sounding so emphatically clear about themselves while in fact leaving almost everything to our imagination" leave themselves open to interpretation. And who better to do a little interpreting than cartoonists? Including as many variegated styles as could be conceivably collected in a single 128-page book, editor Chris Duffy plucks from the cream of the children's graphic novel crop (and beyond!) to create a collection so packed with detail and delight that you'll find yourself flipping to the beginning to read it all over again after you're done. Mind you, I wouldn't go handing this to a three-year-old any time soon, but for a certain kind of child, this crazy little concoction is going to just the right bit of weirdness they require.

Fifty artists are handed a nursery rhyme apiece. The goal? Illustrate said poem. Give it a bit of flair. Put in a plot if you have to. So it is that a breed of all new comics, those of the nursery ilk, fill this book. Here at last you can see David Macaulay bring his architectural genius to "London Bridge is Falling Down" or Roz Chast give "There Was a Crooked Man" a positive spin. Leonard Marcus offers an introduction giving credence to this all new coming together of text and image while in the back of the book editor Chris Duffy discusses the rhymes' history and meaning. And as he says in the end, "We're just letting history take its course."

In the interest of public scrutiny, the complete list of artists on this book consists of Nick Abadzis, Andrew Arnold, Kate Beaton, Vera Brosgol, Nick Bruel, Scott Campbell, Lilli Carre, Roz Chast, JP Coovert, Jordan Crane, Rebecca Dart, Eleanor Davis, Vanessa Davis, Theo Ellsworth, Matt Forsythe, Jules Feiffer, Bob Flynn, Alexis Frederick-Frost, Ben Hatke, Gilbert Hernandez, Jaime Hernandez, Lucy Knisley, David Macaulay, Mark Martin, Patrick McDonnell, Mike Mignola, Tony Millionaire, Tao Nyeu, George O'Connor, Mo Oh, Eric Orchard, Laura Park, Cyril Pedrosa, Lark Pien, Aaron Renier, Dave Roman, Marc Rosenthal, Stan Sakai, Richard Sala, Mark Siegel, James Sturm, Raina Telgemeier, Craig Thompson, Richard Thompson, Sara Varon, Jen Wang, Drew Weing, Gahan Wilson, Gene Luen Yang, and Stephanie Yue (whew!). And as with any collection, some of the inclusions are going to be stronger than others. Generally speaking if fifty people do something, some of them are going to have a better grasp on the process than others. That said, only a few of these versions didn't do it for me. At worst the versions were mediocre. At best they went in a new direction with their material without getting too crazy. Nick Bruel, for example, does a great "Three Little Kittens", filling it with pie-obsessed felines, while Craig Thompson gives his "The Owl and the Pussycat" a kind of John Steed/Emma Peel flair.

The artist couldn't necessarily agree on who the intended audience was either. Amazon, interestingly enough, lists this book as intended for "Baby-Preschool" readers. Um . . . yeah, probably not so much. Though some of these rhymes would be just fine for that age range if you read them aloud, but others just aren't going to go over with the ankle biter set. Of course, there's not a lot of consistency from one rhyme to another. You might read Lucy Knisley's "There Was an Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe" where Knisley has justified the line "Then whipped them all soundly" by making the kids play the instruments of the Old Lady's now defunct band "The Whips" (it's a bit of a stretch, I know) then follow that up with the Eleanor Davis poem "The Queen of Hearts" which takes the line "And beat the knave full sore" and pretty much does just that. Or you might see Raina Telegemeier's highly innocent "Georgie Porgie" followed up with Mike Mignola (the creator of Hellboy) and his dark mannequin-laden contemplation of mortality in "Solomon Grundy". The tone shifts about a bit. That's not a problem for a nine or ten-year-old capable of enjoying the dichotomies but for a kid learning them for the first time it's going to be just too much.

The choice of artists to include must have been fun. Some of these illustrators aren't your standard go-to comic book creators for kids either. For example, Tony Millionaire has spent the better part of his professional life inspiring my nightmares with his alternative strip MAAKIES while I associate Gahan Wilson best with his New Yorker comics more than anything else. Other artists are part of the First Second family, like Gene Yang or Sara Varon. And then there are folks that editor Chris Duffy must have taken a chance on. Kate Beaton, creator of the hilarious and brilliant online strip Hark! A Vagrant shines here with her "Duke of York". Meanwhile Cul de Sac creator Richard Thompson gets to shine with his own "There Was an Old Woman Tossed Up in a Basket". Finally, there are the picture book illustrators like Tao Nyeu or Marc Rosenthal who fit in so well you'd never imagine comics weren't their first love. Personally, I hope that maybe a graphic novel is in their own futures someday.

The advantage of having such a deep well of artists to pull from is that you can usually find folks to fit your own tastes. Personally I felt that Cyril Pedrosa's "This Little Piggy" and "The Lion and the Unicorn" by Aaron Renier were worthy of their own, albeit very short, books. And then there are the visual styles one prefers. I liked it the most when artists referenced some of the great illustrators of the past. Theo Ellsworth's "As I Was Going to St. Ives", for example, seems clearly influenced by Wanda Gag's Millions of Cats, for example. And I can attest that it is a sheer delight to read a book of this sort in full color. From Cyril Pedrosa's hot pink borders to Dave Roman's penchant for purple, this book just wouldn't be the same if the publisher hadn't splurged on a couple shades and tones here and there.

Of course the danger of a book like this is that the reader gets greedy. A mere fifty artists? Couldn't they get Harry Bliss, Jeff Smith, Art Spiegelman, Barry Deutsch, Hope Larson, yadda yadda yadda? Give people something awesome and they'll always find a way to kvetch and demand more. Nursery Rhyme Comics deserves better than that, and will hopefully find its way onto many a child's shelf. And it pairs rather splendidly with a similar collection of American Indian folktales illustrated by a range of graphic novelists called Trickster. If, however, you'd like to pair this book with its literary opposite (authors paired with a single piece of art rather than artists paired with a single short text) consider placing it alongside the fabulous The Chronicles of Harris Burdick with art by Chris Van Allsburg. There are as many way to pair and display and talk up this book as there are artists inside of it. Likewise, there are as many ways to read and enjoy this book as there are children out there who would get a kick out of its pages. Whether they're reading familiar rhymes or discovering new ones, Nursery Rhyme Comics gives kids everywhere a new way of encountering some essential cultural touchstones. Great good stuff.

For ages 9-12.

I agree with the other review that there is a lot of pages that have Superman, Justice League, etc., however, it's a GREAT start!!! I am looking forward to coloring these pages. Jim Lee and Michael Turner are our favorite comic book artist (hubby and me) and this has more than a handful of Jim's work, along with MANY other great pieces!

This is my third DC coloring book, so far, and like the others because it's double sided, on the thinner side and I like to use markers.....I have to take it apart and scan it into my computer to re-print which pages I wish to color on the better paper. Still WELL WORTH the cost for the chance to geek out and color my comic book favs!!!!! Plus you get A LOT to color!!

You'll Need Your Colored Pencils For This One
By thirdtwin
Wide variety of interpretations of Wonder Woman for you to color-worth the try but loss of one star because the pictures are on both sides of the page so markers are out- and there is already some black ink filled in these pictures instead of just straight line work as it should be. Still enjoyable because of the variety of the art work but could have done without the black fill-in done for you if they had printed the pictures on one side of the paper only- you could have used your markers.

Gorgeous illustrations, but book's construction has some problems.
By Dana Hinders
I purchased this book because I'm a huge Wonder Woman fan. While the illustrations are gorgeous and the paper is of a high quality, the pages are double sided and there's no easy way to remove them from the book when you're finished coloring. Since I wanted to use markers to color my favorite Wonder Woman images, I'm a bit disappointed by this. Normally, I'd just scan double sided pages and print them out on my own paper, but the binding in this book makes it very difficult to lay flat and there are details so close to the margins that I can't get it to work at all.

However, if you love to color with colored pencils and don't want to remove the pages for display, this book would probably be well suited for your needs.

Important and groundbreaking financial strategy
Recognizing that traditional accounting and financial conventions may no longer provide the CFO with adequate armory to face the challenges of the electronic environment, eCFO takes a bold step forward to examine how modern CFOs must reposition themselves to operate effectively in this new era. Picking up where CFO: Architect of the Corporation's Future left off, this progressive new book provides new models and techniques to help corporations prosper in the twenty-first century. Featuring interviews at the start of each chapter from some of the world's leading CFOs-including Clayton Daly from Procter & Gamble, Tom Meredith from Dell Computers, and John Coombe from Glaxo Wellcome-eCFO draws on their experience to address the key issues they face in the new business environment.

Review
.."A guide to a topic no eCFO can afford to ignore..."
(Lloyd's List, 16 November 2001)

From the Inside Flap
"Finance will still exist in the future, but in a very different role... It will be a fascinating place to work because it will be... instrumental in creating whole new businesses..."--Stephen Hodge, Director of Finance, Royal Dutch/Shell Group

E-business is creating a powerful new finance role: the eCFO. Shaped by the huge impact of the Internet, the eCFO will act as an internal venture capitalist, opportunity seeker, and risk taker. Focused on the future, not the past, the eCFO will be a true strategic partner to the CEO -- anticipating industry trends, launching new enterprises, and managing investments as a portfolio of options.

Making the transition from CFO to eCFO promises to be exhilarating - and complex. It demands a host of new skills: Developing intangible assets. Valuing Internet businesses. Reinventing resource allocation. Building a "virtual" finance function. And more.

eCFO: Sustaining Value in the New Corporation - the sequel to CFO: Architect of the Corporation's Future - offers a practical, timely guide to mastering the enormous challenges facing today's corporate finance managers. Built around in-depth interviews with leading CFOs,case studies, best-practices, and independent research, eCFO is a road map to the future. In its pages, you'll find everything you need to add value and deliver results in today's e-business world.

From the Back Cover
Soon every business will be Internet enabled and we'll all start dropping the "e" in "e-business." Everything we do is being affected: product creation, customer fulfillment, logistics, planning and, of course, finance. - Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, CFO, Nokia
Among CFOs, there's a universal belief that either you can embrace the Internet, or be victimized by it. This is prompting finance functions to examine how they will transform themselves over time. CFOs have to address the short, intermediate, and longer term impact of the Internet on their companies. - Tom Meredith, Managing Director, Dell Ventures and former CFO, Dell Computer Corporation
Undoubtedly e-commerce will have a significant impact on the finance function. Increasing shareholder value in this market means growing the value of your intangibles; at Pthat includes Rmarketing and people. - Clayton Daley, CFO, Procter and Gamble
The Internet will not wait - it's a cultural, not geographical, phenomenon. It requires substantial investment up front to gain scale fast. The opportunity will not last forever. We have to be represented in as many places, with as many products, as quickly as possible... We think our biggest challenge is one of execution in the face of insurmountable opportunity. - Warren Jenson, CFO, Amazon.com
CFOs of leading-edge companies in every industry are transforming themselves into eCFOs -- harnessing the power of the Internet to move beyond ERP, "blow up" their budget processes, apply new valuation techniques, and build new businesses. As traditional accounting functions change or disappear, redefining finance's agenda in an e-business world takes on a new urgency. Each chapter of eCFO: Sustaining Value in the New Corporation is introduced by a leading CFO. They, and the authors at PricewaterhouseCoopers, provide an invaluable guide to leveraging e-businees, offering strategies, tools, action plans and insight.

Is this a joke?
By A Customer
Having actually been a CFO, I was excited to learn how I might improve on how I do things, challenge any old thinking I had picked up, etc. However, this book says nothing new. In fact, it says almost nothing at all.
PwC has assembled a collection of jargon and case studies that are so high-level as to be of no use. I give it one star instead of zero because the eCFO checklists at the end of each chapter are, in fact, useful in terms of giving you some things to think about -- but you don't need to buy the whole book just for that. Check it out at the library -- better yet, just make photocopies of the checklists.
Is this book also an indication of what you get by hiring PwC consultants?

Great book!
By Marcelo Suarez Castillo
As its predecessor, CFO: The Architect of the Corporation's Future, eCFO continues PwC's collection of financial masterpieces.
eCFO provides a major turnaround in the finance function for the
21st century. The new CFO profile will demand a series of capabilities in order to lead companies through the e-world. Technical skills no longer suffice; CFOs are to be great visionaries and good communicators/motivators in their new leadership role.
For example, the new finance function has to take into account that budgets no longer work. They inhibit growth and creativity. I particularly liked a comment that said that budgets are an exercise of how small a company wants to be. Instead, the authors suggest using rolling forecasts as an alternative to foster creativity and at the same time control risks/costs.
I highly recommend this book. This is the third book I buy from PwC's finance team: CFO, eCFO and In Search of Shareholder Value.

Highly Recommended!
By Rolf Dobelli
The gang at PricewaterhouseCoopers discusses the chief financial officer's role in the changing corporate landscape. The eCFO is no longer only involved with financial management, but must become an internal venture capitalist, opportunity seeker and risk taker who works closely with the CEO to anticipate trends, recommend new enterprises and manage company investments as a portfolio of financial ventures. The authors draw on in-depth interviews with leading CFOs, case studies, independent research and analysis of the latest best practices. Though charts, bullets and boxes impart a textbook flavor, and the trend material is a little familiar, the book is generally solid and informative. We from getAbstract suggest it to CFOs and CEOs who need that "e" awareness, or to any manager who is trying to drag the boss into the 21st century, or even the 20th.

Building My Life, by Pat Franchi

"I was born next to a fireplace, on a concrete floor." That's how Pat Franchi's life began on January 31, 1928, in Gallinaro, Italy. Born into a large, hard-working family, Pat grew up working on the farm—but eventually came to live in America with his family, in Newton, Massachusetts. He went to school—not, at first, being able to speak a word of English—and began his journey anew. A journey that would take him through school, into the Marine Corps, and then starting a small construction company. "Small. It was just me," Pat writes. Franchi Construction went on to be become a huge international firm—building universities, hospitals and housing complexes. Not to mention Launch Tower 14 at Cape Canaveral, that would send the Gemini Missions roaring into space. Pat married Madeline, the love of his life, the girl he met when she was only nine, and they had "six beautiful children." But then tragedy struck. Again. And again. And again. This book is about how Pat kept his family together. It's an uplifting story of determination, perseverance, love, family, honor—and vision. It's the story of how Pat Franchi built his life.

He did it his way!
By Marijo Mccarthy
He did it his way! In the grand Italian tradition of hard work and the strength of a close Italian family, Pat Franchi charted his life’s course and never looked back. And now, he has penned a memoir for his friends, family and fans across the world, that shares just how he did it, time and time and time again. Pat walks us through a wonderfully simple autobiography from his birth to a loving, hard-working family in Gallinaro, Italy to making the trek to America not speaking a word of English, to growing up in Newton, Massachusetts under the guidance of a mother whose laser focus was on securing her family’s health, education and prosperous future in a new country. Eventually, Pat begins his own family and goals in life guided by the principles that made him the decent, caring, smart businessman that he became. From his wife, sadly with him too short a time, to his children, of whom he is so proud, to raising them as a single father after the too early death of his wife, to his national and international business expansion, Pat did it his way.

I was lucky to get this hardcover for the price I did, and it's a resource I've been wanting on my shelf for quite some time. It's in good shape as described and the vendor got it here very promptly..

I expected better from Hunnisett
By A Customer
I already own and love "Period Costume for Stage & Screen, 1500-1800 Vol 1," so I rushed right out and bought this book as soon as it came out. I was very disappointed.
It is a decent book, especially for theater use, but it lacks the excellent understanding of period cut displayed the 1500-1800 book. I expected mush more from Hunnisett.
There are many poorly-drawn illustrations which manage to get the point across, but they do not always show what is really in the paintings they purport to be redrawn from. No explanations are given for some of her more unusual cutting decsions, such as the use of big obvious darts on 15th cent. bodices. In other cases, period garments are pictured next to pattern layouts that could never produce anything resembling them-- almost as bad as Hill & Bucknell. None of the example costumes shown in the book are actually intended as authentic-looking medieval dresses-- all are more or less fantasy-inspired.
If you are looking for a general book on how to make pseudo-medieval fantasy costumes (that look like tie-dyed nightgowns), perhaps for children's theater, this is an okay book, but not great-- nothing inspiring here. If you are looking for a book showing an expert cutter's conjectures on period cut to use as a starting point for developing an authentic-looking costume, either for theatrical or historical reenactment use, don't bother with this one except to check the one page bibliography in the back, and the single useful one page spread of 15th cent Italian sleeves. The rest is nothing special at all. Like so many of these books, you must take everything she shows you with a big grain of salt.
On the other hand, I cannot recommend "Period Costume for Stage & Screen, 1500-1800 Vol 1" highly enough.

From the Inside Flap
"Come, sit," he says, his fingers curling gently around the tips of mine.
I plop down on the beanbag beside him and yelp.
"You are hurt." He frowns. "Let me take a look."
He scrunches the edge of my shirt, but I clamp down on his hand. There's no way I'm admitting that it's my butt that's sore, and no way am I ready to let him inspect that part of my anatomy. Yet.
Get you, my inner devil teases.
"I'm fine." I pin him with a "drop it" look.
"You are so stubborn." Shaking his head, he unscrews the cap from his bottle.
"I'm stubborn?" I level an incredulous look his way. "Have you not looked in the mirror recently, dude?"
He laughs and the sound sends warmth flooding through me.
"You've a lovely laugh," I blurt out. Ohmigod! I can't believe I said something so cheesy.
"I do?" He looks amused.
"Yep." I'm resorting to one-word replies now for fear of what else might inadvertently tumble out of my mouth.
He stares intently at me, his fiery eyes penetrating my soul. The cord buzzes with anticipation. I might've forgotten how to breathe again. "You are beautiful, through and through."
With each passing second, my heart pounds faster and faster. He inclines toward me and I move closer. Butterflies are throwing a mad party in the pit of my stomach. Like magnets, we inch closer and closer still. As my pulse throbs, he zeroes in on my lips and his eyes linger there.
I've imagined this moment so many times without ever really believing I'd get to experience it. Now that I'm here, seconds away from my first real kiss, I'm terrified of the strength of my emotion. I never knew it could be like this. That I could feel such a strong connection to a boy; that my body could tremble with such intense desire. And our lips haven't even met yet.
We are a hairsbreadth from one another. I bridge the final distance and close my eyes. His fingers brush my lips and I'm tingly all over. Reopening my eyes, I see the adoration glistening in his gaze. For me.
"Ala beatra." The words roll seductively and respectfully off his tongue.
I've no idea what it means, or what language he's speaking, but it sounds beautiful.
And like a form of worship.
Though it's possible I'm deluding myself.
He closes his eyes and presses his mouth to mine. His touch is feather soft and it unravels me. I kiss him back equally gently and he moans softly. His lips exert more pressure as he draws me in flush with his solid chest. I've never felt this much emotion before. It's almost too much, but at the same time, not enough.
Gaining in confidence, I encircle my arms around his neck and melt into him, savoring the feel of his body as it presses against mine. Angling his head, he extends the kiss, and it grows in intensity and fire. I'm matching him, kiss for kiss, and my need for him is reaching an all-time high. I can't get enough of him. He is everywhere, and yet I need more.

Hooked on Siobhan Davis writing....
By cc
Hi began reading this author with her Tru Calling series. I love the young adult romance but not necessarily the sci-fi theme. Siobhan has made me a lover of that now.
I did find it difficult in the very beginning of the book to follow, just because there was world building, character building, but I had no idea why the world was the way it was. However, I feel that that worked in my favor because it allowed me to be surprised as the plot developed. Once that happened, I finished the book in a very short period of time, I just couldn't put it down! The writing is so well-done that it transports you to that world, putting you in place of the characters. It's truly captivating and extremely enjoyable, and leaves you wanting more.

I fell in love with Sadie, and even watched her character developed into somebody stronger during the story, and this is just the first book! While I'm very interested in her and Logan and how the relationship will develop, I also find myself invested in secondary characters, and that doesn't happen often in a book. These characters paid such intricate rolls and woven so well with your main characters that it's almost like a second story within the story.

The romance is sweet, has its own ups and downs, but romance is always my favorite part of the book and I got plenty in Saven Deception. I embraced the Eterno connection. It makes the romance more intense! However, romance isn't all this book is about. There is corrupt governments, aliens living among them without knowing, mystery and intrigue and keeps you wondering what is going to happen next.

I love that Siobhan does not leave her books with huge cliffhangers. I will come back and read any additional books in the series if the series is written well. I'm not a big fan of cliffhangers that leave you waiting with characters hanging in the balance. I also appreciate that I do not have to wait for a year to find out what's going on in the story. This makes to Siobhan one of my favorite writers , not just because her books are wonderful and creative and romantic but also because she respects her readers enough to work hard on getting her books out in a reasonable amount of time.

I'm very excited about seeing what happens in the second book, and how these characters continue to develop and change their world with the surprises, and plot twists I can't begin to imagine what will happen next . I give my highest recommendation, not only the Saven series, but the Tru Calling series. If you haven't read that series yet, I suggest you buy that now and read it while you're waiting on the next book to come out in the series. You won't be disappointed!

Excellent read! I'm not really into the alien thing but thought I'd give it a shot. I fell in love with the characters and the story line was REALLY good! It had just the right amount of romance without the lovers triangle to irritate me! : ) Very imaginative without any amateurish feels. Now, Imagine my surprise when I downloaded the next 3 books and after finishing the first, I went to the second and was sorely disappointed when the characters changed on me and shifters were added to the mix. Oh my confused mind. After backing out and checking out my home screen I realized I purchased the seven series and not the Saven series.... Hrmph.... So then I was truly disappointed to find there are not more books out on this series yet. I have to wait.. I'm not the most patient of readers : )~.

I am hooked!
By D.C.
I have been a fan of X-Files since it first aired on television, and this book is right along those lines. I also loved Siobhan's True Calling series. It constantly had me guessing and creating ideas (some completely ridiculous) of what was going to happen, and I found myself doing the same thing while reading this. I kept finding myself going back and forth about the aliens, and I hate to admit it, but I am not as big a fan of Logan as I think I am supposed to be. I don't see their relationship being much different than Jen and Dante's. I understand that it is a soul mate thing, but Logan is going to have to build my trust throughout the next book. As with the True Calling series, I find myself rooting for the underdog--Jarod/Watson (not sure of his real name). I find him incredibly charming and endearing. He is so passionate about destroying the corrupt government while being tech savvy and highly intelligent. I would love to meet a guy that has a costume department in his home! Going on undercover missions would be so much fun, and I see him being more compatible with Sadie. However, there was the scene where Jarod says he liked Jenna, but I am not buying it. He saved Sadie first, and I think there is something going on there, or maybe I am just suffering from wishful thinking. Even though I am not on the Logan bandwagon yet, I still absolutely loved the story. I am so excited to see what happens next!!

Review
4 Stars - A True Gem from Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews"Switch Hitter offered a compelling plot line with plenty of food for thought along with lots of heat."

About the Author
USA Today Best-Selling author Roz Lee is the author of twenty erotic romances. The first, The Lust Boat, was born of an idea acquired while on a Caribbean cruise with her family and soon blossomed into a five book series published by Red Sage. Following her love of baseball, she turned her attention to sexy athletes in tight pants, writing the critically acclaimed Mustangs Baseball series.
Roz has been married to her best friend, and high school sweetheart, for over three decades. Roz and her husband have two grown daughters (and a new Son-in-law) they couldn't be more proud of.
Even though Roz has lived on both coasts, her heart lies in between, in Texas. A Texan by birth, she can trace her family back to the Republic of Texas. With roots that deep, she says, "You can't ever really leave."
When Roz isn't writing, she's reading, or traipsing around the country on one adventure or another. No trip is too small, no tourist trap too cheesy, and no road unworthy of travel.

Switch Hitter is a solid home run!
By Beach Bum Books
Bentley (Bent) Randolf couldn't help himself five years ago, the encounter half innocent, half ... not. He's been running ever since, getting himself traded to the Mustangs, finally settling down with a woman he truly loves. And almost forgetting...

Sean Flannery is at the last stop on a career path that means everything, but his injuries and niggling memories of what might have been make his introduction to his new teammates in the Mustang locker room explosive.

You might say Bent and Sean had each other from "hello" ... with fists flying and five years of bent-up frustration and desire exploding in a brawl in front of all their team mates. And so the dance begins: it's a paso doble of advance and retreat, dominance and power.

Roz Lee choreographs their moves, their desires, their inner conflicts until they--and we--can barely breathe and when Sean finally breaks under Bent's taunting, it ignites a firestorm of passion. The bonds are silk, mere trifles holding Bent hostage, but the chains are real and difficult to break. Bent's torment is all-consuming; a torrent of fear, doubt, self-loathing, and confusion, mingled with the fall-out from his betrayal of his fiance, makes Bent a very conflicted man indeed.

For Sean, what happened may have been the culmination of a dream, a fantasy, but he realizes that Bent might never accept what they have between them ... because it's not just about them.

If relationships between two people aren't complicated enough, what happens when you add another to that potent mix, this one a strong, capable, independent woman? Bent loves Ashley, in fact he pops the question because he wants home, hearth, kids. Bent desperately wants normal.

The problem is, what's normal in the world of sports isn't going to match the new realities facing two men drawn to each other, their lust, their passion nearly eating them alive. It affects their game, their relationships, their very careers ... and how they see themselves.

The author does a splendid job of making the conflicts real and compelling. She burrows inside the heads and hearts of these men with assurance and a deft hand. You feel their pain, you want them to be together, and when they are you get swept away with them. Bent and Sean are so strongly drawn that in some ways Ashley is a secondary, albeit it necessary, character--the pivot point around whom Bent oscillates as he tries to come to terms with the duality of his feelings.

Switch Hitter also has very tense moments of action and Roz Lee has a gift for getting inside the head of the athlete so that you see, hear, feel the ball approach, the satisfying smack on wood or the soul-sucking sound of leather-on-leather, or the terrifying moment when the ball's lost in the lights... You understand why the men love this game and what it is like being out there on the field.

If you like your men strong and conflicted, if you like intense action on and off the field, if you like to agonize with them over their gut-wrenching choices, root for them, cry with them... Heat level: sizzling.

Roz Lee's Switch Hitter is a solid home run. Five stars.

A grand slam for the Mustangs Baseball line up
By Jo-ann Ferra
This is a genre I normally don't read but knew Roz Lee would never disappoint. As with the whole Mustangs Baseball series, this was an erotic tale that took the reader on a rollercoaster ride of thoughts and emotions. I'd suggest reading the series in order and if you like one you will enjoy all.

Highly recommended, along with the whole Mustangs series!
By Willow S.
Switch Hitter kept me up way past my bedtime and made me late for a baby shower the next day! I have read several books by this author (the Lust Boat series and the baseball series) and I can say without hesitation she is a masterful storyteller.

This is a completely absorbing tale of people gifted with a truly great love, one that society may not be prepared to accept. The sexual and emotional tension between Sean and Bentley is palpable throughout, deepened by the genuine warmth and love that Ashley has for Bentley, making every sex scene sizzling hot and layered with intensity.

Highly recommended, along with the whole Mustangs series!
