Excellent resource for differentiation

Understanding that methodology books are rarely intended to be followed exactly might have been helpful for the previous teacher reviewing. OF COURSE it is necessary to fit the lessons to your timeframe and particular students, etc., i should think that should not have to be spelled out for most educators. This book has numerous beneficial lessons for differentiating student study and activity of Caesar according to both skill level and student strengths or interests. This resource, as well as the Romeo and Juliet version, include outstanding examples of how to differentiate, and they can be easily blended with other methodologies. Common Core standards require close textual analysis. The interpretive and paraphrasing activities in this book (as well as the R & J book) are simply the building blocks to the more critical thinking activities the books promote. Differentiating is not a "quick or easy" process; it takes a lot of thought and planning. This book is designed to thoughtfully assist in that process. Please don't be deterred by reviewers who clearly didn't experiment with the book in a classroom setting and passed judgment anyway.

Fantastic Resource

Teaching Julius Caesar has been a fantastic resource for my classroom. My favorite aspects are the final essay prompts, the use of Essential questions to drive essays, seminars, journals, creative writing, and projects and the problem-based learning situations tied to themes and concepts. Also in response to the reviewer criticizing the lack of relevancy to the Common Core Standards, the only way to assess a lot of regular student writing is to assign much of it, often, and assess it regularly. No student benefits from writing 5 5-paragraph essay in 5 weeks but short, meaningful texts that a good teacher can turn around quickly. I recommend this book to all my colleagues because I know it works.

Amazing resource for teaching Caesar and Shakespeare

WOW! This is probably one of the best books that I've read about teaching Caesar, and it was an even more refreshing approach to differentiation. I love how much time is spent on the first act--slowly walking students through all of the necessary elements of reading Shakespeare. The only thing I didn't like was that the handouts weren't all available online and the ones that were weren't all things I'd really use in class. However, they were very easy to reproduce on my computer and definitely not a reason to not get this book.
