I had hoped this book would be a good presentation of problems

I had hoped this book would be a good presentation of problems. The path I would like to see is here is: The problem; The approach to solution (not language specific); and here is how to realize the solution in JAVA. Java offers many alternatives to doing most things, so it would be good to explain why a certain set of methods were used. However, this book seems to be organized like The Java Tutorial as many others are. As an old programmer (before the days of object oriented programming), I find The Java Complete Reference and the Java Tutorial the most useful.
